Run Wild & Free

There is far more to horseback riding than meets the eye. The connection between a horse and its rider is unique and multifaceted.

Trust, patience and friendship come to be mutually cherished. Through horseback riding at the Y, your child will become physically strong, mentally tough and emotionally mature.

YMCA Camp Letts’ Equestrian Center is an exceptional full-service, year-round facility for riders of all skill levels. The center features miles of waterfront trails, a 100-by-220 foot lighted outdoor ring, cross country jumps, and a small sand arena. Our horses and ponies are chosen specifically for their gentle, friendly natures. They can be ridden safely, and are quiet and dependable both in the ring and on trails. Discover our programs and horses below.

Horse Masters

All Ages

The Horse Masters program is designed for riders of all skill levels. Campers are given an evaluation ride and broken into groups according to their riding ability. You will learn grooming, tacking up, confirmation, general first aid, how to design a jump course and practice being an instructor. The Horse Masters program teaches riders to have a strong seat and leg for a secure position when riding. As a rider’s skill progresses, they will learn jump position, two point position, cantering on the correct lead and jumping courses. Riders also participate in a weekly trail ride and a horse show here at Camp Letts to demonstrate their new skills. Camp Letts’ certified instructors give individual attention to all riders and build a personal riding experience for each camper. Horse Masters will spend three hours at the barn Monday through Friday. All participants must have closed toe riding shoes with at least a 1/2 inch heel and long pants.  Click here for prices.
