2012 Overnight Camps

YMCA Camp Letts is located on an inlet off the Chesapeake Bay that overlooks three islands and a 2600 acre preserve that has served as the backdrop for over 100 summers of land and aquatic adventures. It all began in 1906 when YMCA Boys Work Director Albert M. Chesley pitched tents for camping on five acres of land along the South River and initiated what is now the oldest, organized resident camp in the Washington area. The Camp moved in 1922 to its present location, thanks to the generosity of John Cowen Letts. Today youngsters from the Baltimore-Washington area and beyond flock to this secure and exciting environment to kindle friendships and master new skills while learning more about themselves, their peers, and the world in which they live. Our Association of YMCA of Metropolitan Washington would like to say “THANK YOU” to all those who have come before and for all those yet to come.

With over 100 years of experience YMCA Camp Letts offers a safe and stable environment for our guests. We are American Camp Association (ACA) Accredited, National YMCA Camp Standards Accredited, and comply with all Federal and State Regulations. Each year we select caring, alert, and well trained staff through an interview process that includes a FBI background check. Our staff is First Aid and CPR Certified, and program staff is experienced and certified in their specific areas including: US Sailing, MD Safe Boating, YMCA and Red Cross Lifeguard, USA Water Ski, AA County Pool Operators, and Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA).
